Zach Baldwin
Pre-construction Engineer
Zach Baldwin grew up in a small, rural town an hour south of Kansas City before heading to Rolla, Mo where he studied Architectural Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology. While at S&T, he played right tackle on the football team for three years, and was involved with the ASCE and AEI. In his final years of college, he switched his focus to researching bio-based building materials, exploring the feasibility of implementing hemp fiber reinforcement in 3D printable concrete, with the aim of building healthier structures for occupants and the planet. That passion for sustainable, integrated design put him ahead of the construction industry, which became clear during his first post-graduation position at a company that hadn’t yet embraced performance building standards and understanding building science.
Now serving as Kala's pre-construction engineer, Zach feels he is finally working somewhere that aligns with his values of sustainability and high-performance building. When he's not thinking about thermal bridges and airtight building envelopes, Zach is probably hanging out with his crew of engineer friends at a local brewery or spending time with his partner, Cassie and two dogs; Zeke, a snack loving Labrador Retriever, and Gunner, a rodent chasing German-Anatolian Shepherd mix.
