Construction Manager
Job Description
Crafting residences at the pinnacle of comfort, health, durability, and sustainability demands a fusion of elite craftsmanship and relentless innovation. By unifying architecture and design, high-performance building envelope assembly, and master carpentry, Kala ensures every critical control layer and mechanical system is executed with the precision required to meet our uncompromising performance standards.
A key member of the team is the Construction Manager who treats every project with the conviction that Kala's reputation rests on vigilance. You partake in design meetings to familiarize yourself with the project and the customer, the plans and their scope, budget, and schedule. You are the critical eye who identifies discrepancies before they are enclosed, and the leader who aligns trade partners and vendors with our rigorous performance criteria to ensure every residence functions precisely as engineered.
Kala will ensure you are certified as necessary, receive the continuing education required, and are trained in high-performance building particulars. It is important that you arrive with a desire to create a long-term positive impact

Responsibilities
- Own Your Jobs
You'll run the day-to-day rhythm of every job — schedule, organization, cleanliness, material management, and safety. You document daily: deliveries, work performed, inspections, scope changes, and progress photos. You are the oracle of every job. You know how the customer feels about the progress of the job. You know how to smooth out the ebb and flow of job site activity. You obsess over every detail, because you know that the details are the difference.
- Guard the Standard
Every home Kala builds is a precision assembly of thermal, vapor, water, and air control layers, and you are the person verifying it's built that way. You understand and enforce construction drawings, specs, and shop drawings — making sure every subcontractor, supplier, and Kala team member is working from the same current set. You inspect trade partner work for code compliance, plumb, level, square, and adherence to design intent, and you meet with building officials for inspections. You create, maintain, and close out the punch list with the same rigor you bring to day one.
- Solve It Together
High-performance building is a creative discipline, and you don't solve it alone. You collaborate closely with partners and the Kala team to keep scheduling, budget, and design expectations aligned, and you coordinate directly with trade partners on sequencing, deliveries, and manpower. You anticipate problems before they hit scope, schedule, or budget — and when something does go sideways, you communicate it clearly and immediately to everyone who needs to know.
- Grow the Standard
You bring real residential construction management experience to this team, and in return Kala invests in turning that experience into mastery of high-performance building science — Phius principles, envelope assemblies, and the systems that separate a passive house from a standard one. Kala will get you certified and trained as needed. A genuine desire to build to a higher standard isn't optional here — it's the whole point.
