Site Supervisor

Clear the way

Most site supervisors know how it goes. The schedule runs the job, crews show up to sites that aren’t ready for them, and problems show up after the drywall is hung and the cladding is on.

Kala works differently. Every custom home and renovation we build depends on air, water, vapor, and thermal control layers that have to be perfect before they disappear behind the finishes. Our craftspeople are some of the most skilled and dedicated in the trade, and they build every one of those layers. You make sure they have everything they need to do it right, and that the job runs smoothly. At Kala, the standard isn’t “good enough to pass inspection.” It has to be good enough to put Kala’s name on.

One team, end to end

Kala is a design-build firm with architecture, design, framing, and finish carpentry all in-house. The people who draw the house and the people who build it are on the same team, and as Site Supervisor, you’re a critical link between them. When something in the field doesn’t match the plans, you don’t send off an RFI and wait weeks. You walk it through with the architect who drew it.

We’re a Phius Certified Builder, and every home we build is tested for airtightness before it’s finished. Kala homes test under 1.0 ACH50, a fraction of what code allows. That performance is won or lost in the field, one detail at a time, and you’re the one making sure the people doing that work have what they need to get it right.

What you’ll own

Your job is to clear the path. Every Kala project runs on skilled people, both our own crews and the trade partners we trust, and they do their best work when nothing stands in their way. You make sure nothing does.

That starts with planning. You sequence trade partners so each one arrives to a site that’s ready for them, with materials on hand, current drawings, and the work ahead of them complete. You coordinate deliveries and crews, keep the site clean, safe, and organized, and look far enough ahead that problems get solved before they reach scope, schedule, or budget.

It runs on communication. You make sure everyone has accurate information when they need it: what’s changed, what’s next, and what they need to perform. You document every day, including deliveries, work performed, inspections, scope changes, and progress photos, so the whole team knows where the job stands. When something does go sideways, you say so clearly and right away, and you help find the way through.

You meet with building officials for inspections, keep the client informed and confident in the progress of their home, and carry the punch list to closeout with the same care you brought to day one.

Who we’re looking for

You’ve spent years running residential jobs, and you’re ready for work that asks for more. You read a set of plans and see both what’s drawn and what it will take to build it smoothly. You’d rather solve a problem a week early than scramble when it shows up on site. You’re organized enough to keep several jobs on tight deadlines moving at once. You communicate clearly in person and in writing, and trade partners like working with you because you respect their time and set them up to succeed.

You don’t need to know passive house yet, because Kala will get you certified and trained in high-performance building science. What you need is the drive to build to a higher standard, and to make it easier for everyone around you to do the same.

Come see for yourself

There are people who talk about building differently, and people who actually do it. The best way to tell which one we are is to come see. Walk a Kala jobsite, look closely at the work, and meet the team you’d be working alongside. If what you see is the kind of job you’ve been wanting to run, we’d like to hear from you.
